“ACROSS THE DIVIDE”

Politics and theatre join forces once more for the biggest, brightest, and best Political Theatre Festival yet! This year includes new plays from local and national Latino playwrights which explore geo-political and gender divides. Immigration, women’s issues, and social justice are just a few of the topics that will be addressed on the stage.

Embassy of the Americas by Dominic Orlando

One man’s trying ordeal to get an entrance visa into the US at the American embassy becomes a test of wills. Does it pay to follow all the rules and procedures, whether or not they make any sense? He wants to become an American because he loves America, but is that enough?

Sarita, The Frowning Immigrant by Guillermo Reyes

A girl from El Salvador comes to Los Angeles and undergoes a series of surgeries to restore her smile. This piece touches on the ironies of life as an immigrant in the US and how something as simple as smiling can change your life.

Best of Iowa: Drama games for the FL classroom

The presenter brings fifteen years of experience doing and teaching theatre to the FL classroom. Many drama games will be demonstrated and applied to FL teaching. Also, learn a few tricks of the trade to improve role play and small dramatizations. After all: “All the FL classrooms are a stage, and all FL teachers and students merely players.”
