I recently reconnected with Nestor Amarilla, author, playwright and director from Paraguay. Nestor and I have friends in common in the theater world, mainly through our participation with Teatro del Pueblo. Even though Nestor grew up in a small rural farm in Paraguay he completed most of his high school education and all his college education in Minnesota (Metropolitan State University.)

He is a talented young man who wrote several plays. Recently one of them got published: “Saved by a Poem.”

Many internet sources claim that Nestor has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature 2010.

It’s been a long time that I ride a bike. In the Twin Cities (and all MN) it’s easy to just rely on the car the everything and forget about the alternatives. But when bikes are put in front of your nose in Minneapolis and you have the following biking facts…

Facts about biking in Minneapolis:

Minneapolis was recently named America’s most bike friendly city by Bicycling Magazine.
Minneapolis is ranked 2nd in the nation for the number of people who commute to work by bicycle. Census data shows that approximately 4,500 Minneapolitans regularly commute to work by bicycle.
Minneapolis has been designated as a “Bicycle Friendly Community” by the League of American Cyclists
All Metro Transit busses are now equipped with bike racks. Stop in to the Freewheel Midtown Bike Center to try one out.
During the 2010 construction season, 40 miles of new bikeways will be built in addition to the 123 miles already in place.

It’s hard not to even consider trying that system. So today I bought a bike helmet and rode on one of Nice Ride MN beautiful and sturdy bikes. Great experience!

When I was doing theater in high school in Santo Tomé, Santa Fe (Argentina) I remember doing a funny play called “Pitagoras, go home” by Agustin Cuzzani. A great satire about economy written in 1984 but that could be used the state of the current economy in many countries around the world.

Recently I found my copy of the script and it helped me remember the lines of one of my favorite characters “El Ministro de Economia” (Minister of Economy)
